Nestled on 60 beautiful acres in Alamance County, North Carolina, Liberty Acres Animal Haven & Equine Rescue is a special place where a lifelong love of animals has grown into a mission of rescue, education, conservation, and connection. Founded by Alison Peeler, Liberty Acres is home to an extraordinary collection of animals and provides a safe, caring environment for animals in need while giving families the opportunity to experience and learn about species they may never otherwise have the chance to meet.

A Lifelong Love of Animals, A Haven for All

Alison’s passion for animals began long before Liberty Acres opened its gates to the public. What started with her love of caring for animals has grown over the years into the 60-acre haven that exists today. Her dedication and the story of Liberty Acres have even been featured on Spectrum News 1, where Alison shared her passion for her animals, educating the community, and providing forever homes for animals in need.

Rescue is at the heart of Liberty Acres. The farm provides a home for rescued horses and donkeys that have come from Animal Control, kill pens, and owner surrenders, as well as other animals in need of care. Liberty Acres is licensed by the State of North Carolina for wildlife rehabilitation and holding and is also USDA licensed. Every animal is treated as an individual—each has a name, a personality, and a story—and Alison and her team are committed to providing the care and quality of life each animal deserves.

Where People and Animals Connect

Today, Liberty Acres offers visitors much more than the opportunity to simply see animals. Guests can explore the farm and discover an incredible variety of animals, including kangaroos, zebras, lemurs, monkeys, sloths, foxes, tortoises, horses, donkeys, birds, reptiles, and many more. Through these experiences, Liberty Acres hopes to inspire curiosity, compassion, and a greater appreciation for animals and the natural world.

The Capybara Experience

One of the most popular experiences at Liberty Acres is the Capybara Experience, giving guests the opportunity to get up close with the farm’s beloved capybaras. Visitors can meet and feed the capybaras while learning more about their personalities, behaviors, and care. It has become a memorable experience for children and adults alike and is just one of the unique ways Liberty Acres brings people and animals together.

A wallaby with her baby poking out of the pouch so close to the fence you can watch the whole mama/baby dynamic? Emu eating out of a cup of feed while they stare you down? Golden pheasants running across your path? Why didn't we discover this haven long ago?

Would highly recommend this to anyone that loves animals. The animals were all very sweet and docile. The staff was friendly and answered any questions we had.
